A Little Word for a Big Comfort

Posted by Pastor Christopher Hull on with 2 Comments

Psalm 25 says, "Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to Your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of Your goodness, O Lord!" (Psalm 25:7).

This is a simple verse that means a lot. We pray that the Lord would not remember or bring to mind our sins, but would instead look upon us with His mercy and His steadfast love. We are asking our heavenly Father not to look upon us in any way except through His Son, Jesus The Christ. We pray that the Father would look upon us only as He does His own Son.

This verse is a good verse to put to memory for our comfort and assurance. Does the Father look at us in our sins? Does He judge us according to our transgressions? Well, outside of Christ, yes He does. But thanks be to God, we are not outside of Christ, but baptized into Him and are righteous and holy just as He is. We do not stand before the judgement seat of the Father with our works, but with the work of Christ as our justification. We do not stand before the Father with our sacrifices, but with the blood of Jesus on our hands. We are not seen on our own, but in Christ, under the steadfast love of the Lord. We are not judged by our wickedness, but by Christ's holiness. We are not condemned because we are sinners, but saved because Jesus is our holy and righteous Savior who has died for us, and is risen for our justification. The Father does not remember your sins. He remembers His Son and His sacrifice on the cross for you. The Father remembers and calls to mind all that His Son has done and continues to do for you. You are not judged by your failures, but by Jesus' success on the cross and in the empty tomb. You are not remembered for your mistakes and sins, but for Jesus love and mercy.

Take heart this week my friends. The Father remembers your sins no more, for His mind is fully occupied with the work of His Son, Jesus The Christ.

Peace be with you. May the devil be silenced, the world be hushed, and the Old Adam be drowned anew so that you hear only the voice of your Savior Jesus who says, "I love you. Your sins are remembered no more, for I have put them to death and buried them forever," Amen.
