Absolution according to Psalm 103

Posted by Pastor Christopher Hull on

Psalm 103 is the psalm for the Treasury today which prays, "He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him. as far as the east is from the west, so far does He remove our transgressions from us." (Psalm 103:10-12).

I don't have to anything to add to this beautiful prayer. May you have the assurance this week, my friends, that you who struggle with sin, who have a righteous fear of God, who know that you have failed, who are brought to the Father in blessed repentance, you may rest assured that God will not punish you according to your sins. No, but rather, He will forgive you according to His mercy. The devil will always remember your past transgressions, the world will never forget your failures, and the Old Adam returns to the same old sins time and time again. However, with God your sins are removed, forgotten, remembered no more. Your sins are drowned in the blood of Jesus and now you are seen only as the pure child you are, covered in Jesus' righteousness. May this Psalm bring you great comfort this week in the midst of your trials and failures so that you may know that you are a child of a God who loves you and forgives you unconditionally.

Peace be with you. May the devil be silenced, the world be hushed, and the Old Adam be drowned anew so that you hear only the peaceful voice of your Savior Jesus who says, "I forgive you. I love you. I claim you as my own forever," Amen.
