Sheepdog

Saturated by the Word

A few days ago I started reading the bible for a 90 day plan. This has me reading the entire Bible every 90 days, about four times in a year. After a few days, a few things have occurred to me.

First, it does not take that much time to read fourteen chapters of the Bible every day. You can either read it on your hard copy Bible, online, or listen to it via audible or some other app. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour of your day. Think about that. That isn't a tenth of your day. As I read through the chapters, I realized that there are many things I want to do instead of read about the specifics of the vestments that Aaron was to wear before the presence of the Lord. However, as the Word worked on me, those things I wanted to do began to melt away as the Word reset my entire soul.

Second, I know very little of the book that nourishes my life in Christ and with my brothers and sisters. This is the Word of God that is breathed out by God Himself and is profitable for the man of God. However, rather than wallow in my ignorance, I had reassured joy that this Word is for me, that I may rest assured that I am loved by God.

Third, having the Word of God in my daily life brings to life the words of Matthew 6:33 which say, "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and everything else will fall into place." yes, like St. Mary at Jesus' feet, everything else falls into place while the Word of God works on me and resets me to live in faith toward God and fervent love for my neighbor.

So, pick up your Bible, and may it work on you this day. Read those 14 chapters a day, or listen to them, and may they create you anew in the newness of faith that comers only by hearing, hearing the Word of Christ. May the Holy Spirit allow you the time to let His Word work on you, that you may be set free from the gods of this fallen existence, and nourished to continue the pilgrim path that leads unto everlasting life.

Peace be with you. May the devil be silenced, the world be hushed, and the Old Adam drowned anew so that you may hear only the voice of your peaceful Savior Jesus Who says, "I love you. I forgive you. I claim you as My own forever," Amen.

Thank you Pastor. We have begun doing just as you suggested and even the familiar words in Genesis brought a newness from those first chapters I hadn’t realized before.
